Toronto Otaku/Blogger Meet, ACG, and other things

As you might have heard, a few of the locals recently held a meetup at a nearby restaurant; the purpose, of course, being to help like-minded people meet one another. You can find more coverage at the blogs of the other two blogger attendees, Rin and Saku, but the bottom line is that it was a great event and that I’d love to do it again. For the sake of the rest of my readers, I’ll try to refrain from discussing similar meetups in the future, unless it’s a particularly big one; however, for the sake of the few of you that are from the area, I strongly encourage you to get involved in the local community and keep an eye out for events like this.

Toronto Blogger/Otaku Meet

As the few of you Toronto dwellers may have heard, Rin and Saku appear to have put together some form of otaku meetup, inspired by similar events held by Danny Choo. The details can be found at either of their blogs, but the bottom line is that the event will take place on December 19th at 8:00 pm and that you should probably alert one of them first if you intend on going. I believe we can accomodate a total of 40 or so – which is quite a lot, considering only about 6 of us have confirmed – so if you live in the area and you feel like meeting some of the members of the rather small local community, then feel free to join us. As stated on the other blogs, you don’t necessarily have to be a blogger to attend, although I do believe the four Toronto bloggers will be there (GNdynames being the one I didn’t mention yet, and I’m pretty sure the Koibito couple isn’t in the city right now).

So yes, if you’re interested, you’re more than welcome to come; and if you live outside of this little city, then sorry for the filler post orz. The end of the school term is rather busy, but I’ve got some ideas swarming around in my head…I’ve just gotta get around to tossing them into wordpress.

Touhou Doujin Anime with Mai Nakahara and Rie Tanaka!

And so begins the copypasta. As we’ve heard from ANN, as well as a few more sources, it looks as if everyone’s favourite shirine-maiden-starring danmaku game that involves moon rabbits and NUKE-TAN is going to finally get an anime. While it looks as if a doujin anime was already produced (stupid doujin-hating MAL mods; sorry, but you’ll have to bear with a YouTube link), I get the feeling that there’s somewhat of a “THERE IS NO TOUHOU ANIME” vibe around it, so I’ll refrain from discussing it any further. All I know is that it hasn’t been subbed, otherwise I would have just watched it for the lulz.

…But I digress. According to our information sources, which by this point I can only assume to be true, it appears as if the doujin circle Maikaze is seriously going to be making this OVA, professional seiyuu cast and all, and it’ll be sold at C75. Excited? Then again, who isn’t? All I know is, this had better not be some kind of stupid December Fool’s joke.

Winter 2009 Preview

Before we start, let me say this: there is no way I can possibly enjoy the upcoming season more than the current one, even aside from ef. Fall 2008 has been one of the best seasons I remember in quite some time, and so it would be unfair to expect the same level of quality from the upcoming Winter. However, that doesn’t mean that my hype is totally dead; I’ve got a couple things I’m looking forward to, and a few more that look promising. Either way, read on for a quick browse of what we’ll be watching in a month’s time.

[Launch] – Animal Crossing: City Folk

Despite what I say about casual gaming and LOL Wii Fit LOL, Animal Crossing is one of those utterly casual and “kiddie” games that I’ll probably always be playing. I’m not sure why I like it when I could just as easily play The Sims (or even try wandering around the real world), but I do know for a fact that I’ve been looking forward to this one almost as much as Gears of War 2. Perhaps it has something to do with childhood memories – funny how my childhood memories stretch up to the early Gamecube generation – but for some reason, whenever I play an Animal Crossing game I always get that warm, fuzzy feeling that I usually only get from good shoujo. I’m aware of how stupid that sounds, but it’s the truth, and it’s probably the only reason I’m still playing a childish game about catching bugs and talking to animals.

But I digress: the new Animal Crossing game for the Wii has just launched in North America, and I’m about to play it. Hopefully it’ll last me until I get around to watching Special A or Nana.

A Week in the Big Apple: ISML, Barack Obama, and a quick visit to Kinokuniya

Ne, ne, guess what?

…Guessed yet?

…Well, you’re taking too long, so I’ll just tell you anyway. After a rather short absence that probably felt a lot longer for me than for you (in a good way), I’m back, and with a burning passion to finish everything that I told myself I would do since summer.

…Either that, or just to post semi-frequently and play Gears of War 2.
