Clannad ~After Story~ [ep 2]

by eternal on October 14, 2008

And to think I once thought that Clannad had only five girls…

Traditional Key-style surreal setting, as usual.

Looks like Mei will be around more often this season, and I’m not complaining.

If you say so…

Shh! Not so loud…

Is the thought of going out with Sunohara really THAT bad?

That’s almost as bad as something Louise would say…

Is something that bad capable of getting worse?

Sure, that doesn’t look suspicious at all!

Cute hairstyle. I’m a Nagisa fan, by the way.

*nosebleeds*

Seriously, what’s with all the MILF this season!?

Now that’s what I would call an awkward situation.

All in all, pretty fun episode, though there’s not much to say as usual. Sunohara’s pretty much just being his usual self, although getting to see more of him like this is slowly improving my opinion of him. Sure, on the outside he’s pretty much just the stereotypical “friend of the harem lead”, but in reality I guess he’s not a bad guy. Or at least, he’s entertaining enough.

One of the things I’m enjoying the most about After Story is getting to see all of the characters interact with one another. The first season was actually pretty heavy on the slice of life aspects, but since I knew it was based on a VN and I didn’t know any of the girls, I couldn’t help but watch it as an adaptation. However, with After Story, there doesn’t appear to be too much structure – and I mean that in a good way. In fact, it proves that if you remove the constriction of the five different “routes” that the anime is forced to take, the show suddenly becomes a highly entertaining comedy/slice of life. With, of course, an overdose of moe.

Speaking of moe, actually, I think we all agree that easily the best thing this week was Sanae. I mean, I never considered myself to be that kind of person, but…come on. I don’t care if I swore to support Nagisa and her route since the first ep of season one, if her mom dresses like that all the time, then I think this series (and it’s fanboys) are in for a pretty big change of pace.

…But really, it was the megane that did it for me. I believe a certain glasses-adoring aniblogger should be discussing this by now.

…Never mind what I said about Sunohara, that’s what I call an awkward situation.

Go straight to MAL, do not pass Go. :P

Sometimes I still wonder whether the megane obsession applies as much or not, but it’s a good starting point and a memorable title for my blog. XD

On a more useful note, I agree with what you said, about how Clannad A.S. actually functions really well as a slice-of-life/comedy instead of a more structured show. I’ll almost be sad when the story actually starts.

And then I’ll really be sad, if After Story lives up to the hype…

Also, welcome to Anime Nano~

Oh boy I loved Nagisa in that new hairstyle :3.
Ryou tearing up made my moe meter max (MMMMM).
Clannad doesn’t have five girls! There’s SIX! Don’t forget Nishina Rie – the girl who lent Kotomi the violin! She’s the true heroine of Clannad >:D… I like her for some reason. Oh and Yukine as well. I want to see her arc soon.

I never finished Clannad S1 so I’ll just hijack this post to give you messages. I am officially proclaiming you one of my internet friends, just because ef is one of your top 5 anime and NHK and Boogiepop are in your top 5 manga. You are obviously a person with a lot of the same taste as me. You need to broaden your range, though. Any time you need recommendations, come right to me. I have no shortage of things I want to make you watch : D

Oh, and you better put Euphoric Field on your blogroll : p

I got the first part of Clannad I need to watch. I have not gotten around to it yet. Though I will more than likely make note to watch it now. Seems like a nice series ^^

I’ve been a fan of Clannad since the Visual Novel release, I never thought of that many would trash this. Well, it’s hard for me to know. Although, I love the anime series than the VN.
Ep.2, I think this arc is for Mei and Sunohara yet I want ep.3 now.

It’s only natural for Sanae-san to be incredibly awesome and moe. I mean…she’s the woman that raised Nagisa! Nagisa had to get all of her adorableness from someone (and I’m positive it wasn’t her dad).

But really, it feels like Clannad somehow got a lot better this season and I already loved the first season. What score do you give something that’s better than a 10!? (For me anyway)

@ CCY: I think I’ll end up sad if it lives up to the hype in THAT way as well…but I suppose it’s all part of the Key charm.

@ M12: Yes, that Ryou scene had a fair effect on me too XD

@ digitalboy: Thanks for the add, I’ve added you to my blogroll as well. I’m assuming you’ve already seen my MAL account, so if you have any recs that I haven’t already seen, just leave a comment (or spam my email) ;P

@ Kairu: Oh, it’s definitely a nice series. Make sure you catch up before/by the time After Story finishes so you don’t accidentally come across any major spoilers.

@ Kairu Ishimaru: I’ll never be able to look at Sanae the same way again XD

@ tflops: I’d sure like to play the visual novel, but I can’t read Japanese and didn’t want to play the unfinished patch that was leaked. Still though, it’s nice to see that the anime is doing a good job of covering the original material.

@ FuyuMaiden: Well, what I usually do is put it under my “favourites” tag at MAL ;P
