The power of eBay – Touhou mousepad

A short little post for everyone today, seeing as I have yet to complete Concealed the Conclusion and get a tripod so that I can try my hand at figure photography (though you probably won’t be seeing any of those for a while). Anyway, the purpose of this post is to highlight a little irrelevant piece of merchandise I grabbed off eBay a little while ago; something that, although not rare or valuable, is still pretty useful. What am I talking about, you ask? The title says it all – a mousepad featuring the cast of Touhou 7 – Perfect Cherry Blossom.

Fall 2008 Preview

Well, people, it’s that time of year again: the time when every show of the season nears it’s hopefully impressive conclusion, and when we plan out our watch lists from the anime set to come at us in only a few weeks. Admittedly, I’m a bit late with this one, with sites such as THAT already posting their (quite extensive) coverage on the upcoming season, so I’ll try and keep the info to a minimum and focus on my own opinions of what to watch. Without having to think about it, though, I can tell you one thing right away: new season of ef + new season of Clannad = EPIC WIN.

PC-98 Touhou – This stuff isn’t half bad

Over a decade after the launch of a certain infamous series of danmaku games (which, ironically enough, didn’t even start as danmaku), I think it’s safe to say that just about every otaku has at least heard of ZUN’s endeavours in the world of doujin soft and the production of arguably one of the best shmup series ever made. From the intensity of capturing trying to capture Yukari’s Boundary of Life and Death, to the heart-pounding conclusion of every 1cc run where you clear the last pattern with zero lives and zero bombs, and even to the fanboys constantly arguing over whether Marisa should be paired with Reimu or Alice, Touhou has, through some means or another, become a staple in otaku culture. However, there’s a certain little part of the series that people tend to forget; those five SNES-style games that started it all.

Code Geass R2 – A brief retrospect

I believe it’s safe to say that every anime fan has their own taste in anime; from the GAR of Gurren Lagann to the moé of Kanon to the romance of Special A, everyone finds a few shows from each given season based on their genres or their staff, and follows them in the hope that they won’t disappoint. I, of course, am like this as well, what with my seemingly unnatural tendency to gravitate toward anything connected in some way to visual novels – or, admittedly, anything involving effeminate romance and drama. However, I think we can all agree on one thing: there’s one show that’s been airing since spring that everyone somehow wound up watching, and for good reason, at that. I’m well aware that few (if any) of my readers would be interested in a detailed account of the history of the series and the various twists and turns that lead us to this point, but there’s one thing I CAN do, and that’s give my own opinion on this WTF-fest we call Code Geass.
