Welcome to the first episode of the Memories of Eternity podcast! I believe I’ve mentioned this idea in passing before but it took a little while to get the ball rolling. The format is pretty much stolen straight from wah–each episode will have a (usually different) group of people chatting about whatever issue we decide on in advance, preferrably something topical so that the listeners will be on the same page as us.

Ironically, everyone won’t be on the same page for this one because it was recorded a few weeks ago and it took me a while to find the time to edit it. Regardless, I hope you have fun with it. Do note that this was a new experience for all of us so it may be a little rough around the edges. Feedback is always welcome.

Guests:

Songs:

  • OP – Taste of Paradise by Eri Kitamura (Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!)
  • ED – Magia by Kalafina (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

Show notes:

  • We were using Moetron‘s Winter 2011 chart.
  • The post on Behind the Nihon Review I mentioned is this one, written by Kylaran.
  • Toshiyuki Kato directed Code-E, Mission-E, and Level E but I don’t think they have anything in common.
  • Want to join the OniiKoto drinking game? It’s on the calendar. Also, check my old post for a more coherent explanation of why I think it’s better than it looks.

I like half listened to it while surfing the web, but EO sure talked a lot. And I mean a lot. Diversify a bit! In terms of topics too haha.

Well I may be rather wordy but I couldn’t really help that Eternal and I did most of the talking when Rune and Chrono didn’t pipe up very often. I felt like it needed more balance and I tried a couple times to draw them out more, but I guess they’re just not as talkative.

I suppose it didn’t help that I didn’t do any preparation for it and I’m not usually one to sample everything in the season so there weren’t many series I could really comment on.

Yeah, I think there was pretty much no helping the balance in this case. It can be hard to pipe up when you’re not used to podcasting (I could have probably said a lot more if I were used to podcasting). Next time’s topic will probably be more interesting, I just wanted to pick something simple so that I’d stop procrastinating and actually get this thing started :P

Interesting podcast. It was nice to hear some opinions about all the shows, especially about a few ones I didn’t bother picking up yet, or ones I’m still collecting right now (I usually watch a season only once it’s complete).
One thing I was suprised about was that you didn’t mention the KnK epilogue, Supernatural or Black Lagoon at all – I was pretty sure that you’d say a few words about them, even if they air(ed) after the time the podcast was made. ^^

I haven’t seen any of Black Lagoon but I was actually going to mention Supernatural. I half-mentioned it while recording but we ended up talking about something else and we wound up never coming back to it so I just edited it out. I had completely forgotten about KnK, surprisingly, though I’m not sure if I had anything to say about the epilogue in terms of expectations.

A little rough, but there’s potential. Did you go by a rough script/outline, or was it more or less whatever came up on the topic?

Also, if you’ll accept suggestions, I think it might help to have more extensive show notes so the audience can keep up with the conversation if they happen to miss a word here or there.

Looking forward to the next one! : )

It’s definitely rough, hence my decision to name it episode 0 (I kinda expected this would happen). No, we didn’t have a script, though we sorta knew in advance which shows each of us watched.

By more extensive show notes, I guess you mean a sort of summary/guideline to tell people when we change topics? That would make sense actually. I think I’ve seen that on a few other podcasts.

An anime podcast, that is a nice idea to be sincere.
I quite liked it (maybe too long?!)

Good to see another podcast in the ani-blogging sphere! If you need any quick tips on your podcast, I would suggest going to the settings in your skype recorder and set it to record in mono at 64kbps. Good to see another podcast up and running! and hope that tip helped!

Shinbou+Kajiura? Just watch Cossette… it’s way better than Madoka turned out to be.

And Shinbou wasn’t really behind the cutout stuff: that was Gekidan Inu Curry.

Also Shinbou directed Nanoha… which of course sucks, but you know, he’s done magical girls before. He also did did Galaxy Fraulein Yuna in the 90s, which is like… magical girl, or mecha musume. I’ve never watched it, so I don’t know.

Also that one guy’s classification of magical girl was really weak, and pretty wrong.

One of Bones’ most famous works is an adaptation: Full Metal Alchemist. But I personally like Scrapped Princess better…

And c’mon… C’MON… SD Gundam? That was the 1980s. Also, if you look at Gundam movie program books from the early 80s (as well as doujinshi+manga from the era) you’d see that SD was BORN in the 80s. It’s not new at all.

But yeah, you shouldn’t be so conscious of what you like being “good” or “bad” and everything is subjective.

Other than that it was an okay nerd podcast. You guys should probably keep Wikipedia open or something in the future.
