Clannad ~After Story~ [ep 10]

Tomoya and Nagisa continue their blissful lives, wavering unsteadily on the line between realism and escapism. I’m not even sure what to classify this show as any more, but it looks as if my dream has come true: there really is a borderline-shoujo Clannad anime about the main couple’s relationship, and like I predicted back during the first season, I’m enjoying it. A lot.

Analysis

On Rabu-Rabu [part one]: The Beauty of the Conflict

We all know that I’m a romance fan, right? Well, if you don’t, then now you do – it’s no coincidence that Memories of Eternity isn’t exactly the manliest name around. Being the fan that I am, upon reading anime blogger ghostlightning‘s recent post on shoujo and the nature of the “happily ever after” endings that we so often see, my mind was left in a daze – the good kind of daze – and I was inspired to write something of my own. It’s a somewhat unrelated topic, but it falls under the same general category anyhow; I’m talking about the appeal of romance anime, and the effect it has on its fans. Contrary to popular belief, there very well may be layers of depth to the genre that people don’t often think about, and it’s my duty as a fan and as a blogger to see what I can dig up. So, if you’re in the mood for some reading, then I welcome you to join me on my quest through the wonderful world of rabu-rabu.

Merchandise

The Touhou Collection

So, I was looking through some of my old unsorted merchandise recently when I suddenly realized something: I’ve got the entire current-gen Touhou series sitting in my room, still sealed as PaletWeb delivered them. I was thinking of putting them back where I found them, but much like in one of my previous merchandise posts, a familiar thought struck me – I’m a blogger, and what do bloggers do when they have a mass of things that they can’t really use but want to show the world anyway?

Yeah, you guessed it. They take pictures and post them instead of, y’know, actually writing something.

Toronto Blogger/Otaku Meet

As the few of you Toronto dwellers may have heard, Rin and Saku appear to have put together some form of otaku meetup, inspired by similar events held by Danny Choo. The details can be found at either of their blogs, but the bottom line is that the event will take place on December 19th at 8:00 pm and that you should probably alert one of them first if you intend on going. I believe we can accomodate a total of 40 or so – which is quite a lot, considering only about 6 of us have confirmed – so if you live in the area and you feel like meeting some of the members of the rather small local community, then feel free to join us. As stated on the other blogs, you don’t necessarily have to be a blogger to attend, although I do believe the four Toronto bloggers will be there (GNdynames being the one I didn’t mention yet, and I’m pretty sure the Koibito couple isn’t in the city right now).

So yes, if you’re interested, you’re more than welcome to come; and if you live outside of this little city, then sorry for the filler post orz. The end of the school term is rather busy, but I’ve got some ideas swarming around in my head…I’ve just gotta get around to tossing them into wordpress.

Touhou Doujin Anime with Mai Nakahara and Rie Tanaka!

And so begins the copypasta. As we’ve heard from ANN, as well as a few more sources, it looks as if everyone’s favourite shirine-maiden-starring danmaku game that involves moon rabbits and NUKE-TAN is going to finally get an anime. While it looks as if a doujin anime was already produced (stupid doujin-hating MAL mods; sorry, but you’ll have to bear with a YouTube link), I get the feeling that there’s somewhat of a “THERE IS NO TOUHOU ANIME” vibe around it, so I’ll refrain from discussing it any further. All I know is that it hasn’t been subbed, otherwise I would have just watched it for the lulz.

…But I digress. According to our information sources, which by this point I can only assume to be true, it appears as if the doujin circle Maikaze is seriously going to be making this OVA, professional seiyuu cast and all, and it’ll be sold at C75. Excited? Then again, who isn’t? All I know is, this had better not be some kind of stupid December Fool’s joke.

ef – a tale of melodies [ep 9]

After Miyako’s 99 Missed Calls scene in memories, I believe it was evident to all of us that there was more to ef than met the eye, especially in terms of psychology. Though based on an eroge and technically following the VN adaptation formula, it’s nearly indisputable that the characters in ef, both male and female, contain a considerable amount of psychological depth, and that their actions are often times unpredictable. Whether “unpredictable” means foolish, naive, courageous, or anything else is irrelevant; the point is that they all contain more depth than one would expect, and the depth of said characters is emphasized through the drama in the story.

This time, we witness first hand the state of mind of the show’s most twisted character: Akira Amamiya.
