A Short and Temporary Hiatus

by eternal on May 30, 2009

Because succinct post titles can be more effective than wordy ones.

Anyway, as much as it pains me to say it, I’m afraid that the dreaded H-word has finally seized control over me after a thoroughly enjoyable 9 months of blogging. I’m not burned out: I’ve been watching anime for years and I know that I still have a lot to learn. I’m not sick of the blogosphere: I”ve actually learned more about the world from you guys than from the mandatory careers class at school. I didn’t give up: I know that it takes time to get better at anything, and I’m nowhere near ready to abandon my dreams.

So why did I succumb to the almighty Hiatus Disease? Most likely because I need a break.

That’s all there is to it, really, and I’ll keep this short since it definitely isn’t a goodbye. I’ll probably still be around Twitter (follow me if you’re not already), I’ll be watching anime whenever I get time and I’ll try to keep an eye on the blogosphere, but unfortunately, I need a break from writing. A large part of this is due to the fact that I’ve started working on one of my fictional stories (you know, those), which will be occupying most of my brain power for the next little while. When you add that to the fact that aniblogging doesn’t work without watching anime, and the fact that all I really want to do is kick back with a few VNs and the remainder of the Hitchhiker’s Guide series, I simply won’t be able to keep writing.

But I definitely won’t be gone for long. My estimate is somewhere around a month. Really, I’m not sure if this warrants a hiatus note, but I don’t want anyone thinking that I got cocky, subscribed to the Slow Blogging theory, and started assuming that people will still care about me even if I post twice a year. (It works for some people, I know, but I wouldn’t take the risk). I always do what I can to keep up a decent post flow, and because I won’t be able to do that for a fair chunk of the early summer, I owe it to you to at least mention it.

Anyway, I’ve droned on for long enough. Keep writing, keep reading, and keep watching anime; I’ll be drifting around the interwebs in the meantime, and you can look forward to a full-forced return in approxitately a month’s time.

Its a shame to see you be gone for a month. Its been a pleasure reading your articles and were pretty different and insightful to read compared to other blogs around the world. They got me to thinking of alot of things that i would not have. Well I guess this is sayonara for now and good luck on writing your stories. I look forward to seeing your return.

I found my subscribers going up after I started blogging less, but your results may vary–I’m close to 400 subscribers now and I’m at my least productive in ages! This is what feedreaders do to your readership, really, so you shouldn’t have to worry much about a protracted absence. Web 2.0 is very forgiving.

See you in a month! VN blog posts are fine too, or so I do think.

Everybody needs a break! I bet you’ll find you’re recharged and work better after the break. I know I do.

A good break is often necessary to take a rest and then resume Blogging (or even following Forums) after a recharge. But your fictional writing ought to be your priority; if you want to really succeed at getting published you have to devote yourself to it. I have a feeling that you already know this :-P

I used to take two-week breaks after finishing a full “Part” of my novel; usually after working weeks of 10-18 hour days (well, it’s a LONG book lol). During these breaks I’d enjoy my other entertainments and hobbies before plunging back into it. This was before I discovered the addiction of anime though, so maybe it would be a bit harder to extract myself and resume my Work now!

I really hope you return soon though, your Blog is very good, entertaining, and full of useful information. Most of all, ENJOY YOUSELF :-D

Douglas Adams = love. You should try to pick up his Dirk Gently series when you get done hitchhiking the galaxy.

I was planning on doing just that. I absolutely love his writing style; sometimes I end up laughing within a page of picking up the book :P

Hope you rest well and keep going with your good analysis (especially Type-Moon ones!). I do really hope to read your analysis of Fate/Stay Night’s UBW and Heaven’s Feel route.

Careers class is absolutely pointless -_-

I’ve not all too much to say really since I’m not that good with words. Well, enjoy your break, refresh your mind and come back fueled with renewed vigor!

Well I just found you. I guess it’s my luck that I get time to catch up on your older posts and stuff.

It looks like an interesting blog. I hope you have fun in your month off. Besides, forcing posts isn’t always good.

Seeing as I’m already back and all there’s no real point in replying, but for what it’s worth, thanks for the…er…hiatus wishes? Your words remind me that the world of the internet isn’t as cold and unforgiving as it sometimes appears, and I look forward to returning full-force someday soon!
